There's An App For That

I finally got an Android powered smart phone.  I've had smart phones for years for email and web browsing, but all of them had been Windows mobile phones.

My new phone, the Fascinate from Samsung.

Now that I have an Android powered phone I'm discovering the world of apps that it seems everyone has enjoyed for years.  The phone came with quite a few pre-installed, including most of the social networking apps like Face Book, Twitter and Google +.  I found one game app that I'm really enjoying, 9 Innings.  If you're a fan of baseball games it's worth checking out.

I posted about my quest for cool apps on the J93.3 Face Book page and got quite a few responses.  (You can still join that conversation.)  The app that got the most and strongest endorsements was for the You Version Bible.

One the favorite apps of J93.3 listeners.

Steve Swanson was talking about this app last week on his show.  It's been downloaded millions of times and is (supposed to be) really simple to use.  I downloaded it this morning but haven't had an opportunity to explore it yet.

Face Book Prayer Request
This whole smart phone, social media thing is actually pretty exciting.  I'm especially enjoying the fact that we're building community among listeners through things like the J93.3 Face Book page.  Our conversation about smart phone apps led to a couple of people helping each other find new apps and offering suggestions on saving on data plans.

Our Face Book page has also become a source for sharing prayer requests.  We got one this morning from Beth Clark.  Beth is asking for prayer for her three-year-old son Colton.  Colton was born with a congenital heart disease and is scheduled for pre-op this Thursday and open heart surgery on Friday.  Please add him to your prayer list, and the rest of the Clark family as well.

Tickets & Tunes
All this week it's a "your choice" prize package with Tickets & Tunes.  If you win you can choose a Family 4-Pak of tickets to any one of our November concerts.  The concerts in November are made possible by our friends at LaGrange College.  If you follow J93.3 on Twitter you'll receive a Tweet a few minutes before we air the Contest Kid, so you'll have a head start on everyone else.

Tomorrow On The Morning Show
We'll be joined in the studio by Jenny Fritz, talking about the Coweta County Chamber of Commerce Expo.  The Expo takes place this Thursday.

Me, taken with my new phone. A better subject would yield a better photo.
